Have you ever thought about the power that unity with others can bring into our lives? There’s incredible power in uniting with Godly people along our journey. Unfortunately, too often, when we face challenges in life, our human nature wants to withdraw and isolate. But, when we take the courageous step to unite with godly people around us, God brings strength, healing, and blessings into our lives.
The power of unity is illustrated so beautifully in the story of Ruth in the Bible. When Ruth was dealing with the incredible pain of losing her husband, this young heartbroken widow made a very courageous choice which opened the door for God’s miraculous power to invade her life.
Her choice to cling to her mother-in-law Naomi, (who was also grieving the loss of her husband and 2 sons) was not an easy decision. This meant that Ruth would leave Moab, the only place she had ever known. It meant leaving her family and friends, who by the way served false gods. Ruth took a very bold stand to not only follow Naomi, but also to follow her God. Even in Naomi’s pain, her life revealed God to Ruth, and Ruth was drawn to her and to God as a result.
This powerful union between Ruth and Naomi also bridged a generational gap. They became stronger together. Generational connections are vital to a healthy life and definitely part of God’s plan for us. We need each other!
Another thing to notice… by making this choice to unite with Naomi, it’s obvious that Ruth was refusing to give into the desires of her flesh. Her human nature would have surely tried to get her to isolate, have a pity party and take on a victim mentality. Ruth did none of these things!
As her story unfolds in the book of Ruth, this courageous choice to unite her life with a godly woman named Naomi, brought about God’s protection and abundant provision. But, not only that, this union caused Ruth to walk into God’s purposes for her life as God chose her to be part of the lineage of Jesus when she gave birth to her son, Obed.
Ruth walked into God’s protection, provision and purposes as a result of her union with Naomi. Never underestimate the power of a Godly union!
Let’s be women who refuse to isolate, feel sorry for ourselves, or live as victims. The CHOICE is ours! Let’s open our hearts and lives to God and each other. When we follow God and unite together in Godly relationships, we will see the miraculous take place!
As you spend quiet time with God this week, read the Book of Ruth (it is only four chapters long) and ask yourself the following questions:
Are you seeking after God with all your heart?
Are you striving to make Godly relationships with others?
Do you tend to isolate yourself from God and others, in times of heartache and pain? If so, why?
Are you looking to God for your protection, provision and purpose in life?
The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:19 “And the same God who takes care of me will supply ALL your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” If you have never asked Jesus into your heart and life, stop and do so know. It’s by far the greatest CHOICE you can make in life!
